How to Tow 5th Wheel Trailer with 2016 Ram 3500 and Demco UMS Rails

Question:

I’m looking to free up some bed space. Currently have Demco 21K Autoslide with the under rail kit DM8551006. I believe the Demco UMS gooseneck hitch DM5988 will fit right in. Would this work with the convert a ball fifth wheel adapter CAB-C5GX1216 for a 2016 ram mega cab 6.4’ bed? Or what would be the best set up with my current Uber rail mount? I was thinking the convert a ball would be better than a goose box or gen y with the offset. Trying to get away from a more traditional 5th wheel hitch.

Yes, you can definitely use the Underbed Rail and Installation Kit # DM8551006 on your 2016 Ram 3500 along with the UMS Series Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # DM5988 and Convert-A-Ball Adapter w/ Offset # CAB-C5GX1216.

Since you have a short bed I do recommend checking out our clearance formula and checking your measurements to make sure this setup will give you clearance to make turns without hitting your truck cab:

(A + B) - C = Clearance

A = Distance from center of fifth wheel hitch jaw to truck cab
B = Length of offset (7-1/2")
C = Width of trailer divided by 2 (to get half)

You need at least 4" of clearance to be able to make a 90 degree turn.
