Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500

Question:

I am looking at upgrading to a fifth wheel camper and I am kinda confused on the correct hitch for my truck. We are looking at a 2023 Cougar 29RLI and I have a 2020 Chevy 2500 with the 6foot 8inch bed with OEM prep package. The sales people told me with the design of the cap a slider was not needed, other people say you need a slider with a short bed. Some people say with the new Chevy puck placement a slider setup will hit the tailgate. So looking for some good advice on a hitch setup. I really like the BandW hitches but open for anything. Thanks

Since your Silverado has the shorter bed it is highly recommended to use a sliding hitch over a standard fixed one. No matter what size the cap on your trailer is, this will give you more clearance when backing up or making tight turns.

I saw you were looking at the standard B&W Companion item # BWRVK3710. B&W makes the best and most reliable 5th wheel hitches in the towing industry. The same reliable hitch is also available with a slider base that attaches directly to your puck system. It is the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider item # BWRVK3775.

The Companion Slider has a 20,000 lbs capacity and will give you 12" of travel for making tight turns and backing. This hitch will not come close to hitting your tailgate. I have linked a review video and a couple of pictures below so you can see what this hitch will look like installed in a truck similar to your own.
