Parts Needed For Towing a 1961 Broken Arrow TeePee Trailer With a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan

Question:

I have a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT. I need a wiring harness and hitch to be able to pull my 1961 Broken Arrow TeePee Trailer, empty weight 2500 lbs. It has a 4 Flat style connector. What do you recommend? I used to have a much larger trailer 26 that I pulled with a 2007 Ford Expedition. It required a brake controller. Would a brake controller be required for my current set-up? If so, what one? My other trailer had sway bars. This older trailer just has a basic hitch. Would I need to add a weight distribution system with sway control with my current set-up? If so, what one? Thank you for your help.

I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98854 for your 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. This is a class III receiver which will accept a 2" ball mount. As your trailer has a 4-way flat connector you will need the Curt Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56331. Since the trailer has a 4-way it will not have electric trailer brakes.

I highly recommend using a Fastway e2 Weight Distribution # FA92-00-0600. This hitch is rated for trailer up to 6,000lbs with a tongue weight of 250-600lbs. It will fit into the 2" receiver recommended above. The weight distribution will help to reduce the rear sag and level your Caravan when towing. It also incorporates sway control to help keep your trailer tracking straight when towing on the highway. You will need a 2" # EQ91-00-6080 or 2-5/16" # EQ91-00-6100 hitch ball to match your coupler. This will install with a 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216.
