Spacing Between Frame and Axle for Timbren SES Kit for a 1997 Ford F-150

Question:

I have about 6.8 inches between the frame and the axle on my F-150. Is that enough to give me an inch clearance unloaded? I had a set on an F-250 that worked very well, but when they came down on the axle, the ride was much stiffer. I do not want the ride to be stiff unloaded.

Timbren Kit part # TFR1525HD is an adjustable kit as it comes with a removable 1 inch spacer. I pulled one of these from our warehouse and the spacer in the kit measures 6 inches from the bottom of the frame to the end of the rubber spring, and without the spacer, it measures 5 inches. I would first install the kit with the spacer in and you should have about .8 inches of space left. If you find that the ride is rough on normal roads, remove the spacer and you should have plenty of space so the spring will not touch the axle.
