After Installing Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2011 Honda CR-V Vehicle Running Lights Stopped Working
Question:
I installed this wiring harness 2 weeks ago, now my running lights front and rear are not working. Any suggestions to what it could be?? i think it might be a fuse but i am having trouble locating which fuse it would be. I trouble shooter and unplugged the harness and lights still didnt work. this is on a 2011 CRV LX

It does sound like it is a fuse but we need to figure out what caused the fuse to blow in the first place. Otherwise this problem will just keep happening. First, to verify that it is a fuse, you can use the owners manual and/or the legend on the power distribution box lid to find the fuse location.
Leave the harness unplugged when you change the fuse. If the running lights on the 2011 CR-V start working then we know that there was a short somewhere that caused the fuse to blow.
Check the connection point on the vehicle for any bent pins or corrosion. This could cause a short. Also check the connector on the wiring harness. If you plug it in and the fuse blows again or shortly after plugging it in then that indicates a problem inside the converter box of the harness, and it will need to be replaced.
If it does not blow the fuse, then converter could still be blown. You can determine that by using a circuit tester # PTW2993 on the 4-Way end. If no power is on the 4-Way when the running lights, turn signals, and/or brake lights are on BUT there is power on the input side then the converter is bad and will need to be replaced.
If the problem occurred after connecting to a trailer, then the likely culprit is a short on the trailer. Make sure that the trailers connector is clean and free of corrosion. Then make sure the main trailer connector ground is attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. Do the same with the trailer lights. Then you can inspect the trailer wiring for any breaks with copper strands touching bare metal.
