The Curt trailer wiring harness you referenced, part # C56011, is a correct fit for your Mazda CX5. This plug-and-play harness connects at the tail light assemblies by plugging in between the vehicle wiring and the tail light assemblies.

I have linked an install video showing a 2014 CX-5 that you can review.

You will need to get access to the tail light wiring in order to connect the harness. This will require removal of interior access panels at the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle wiring will be plugged in to the back of the tail light assemblies; the plug-and-play connectors on the curt harness will plug in between these connectors and the lights themselves.

I was able to find an online version of the owners manual for your vehicle. On pages 365-366 there are diagrams regarding the process of replacing tail light bulbs. The illustrations show the interior access panels that need to be removed temporarily to access the wiring. Once there, simply unplug the connector at the lights, connect the harness wiring, reconnect the vehicle wiring and reinstall the light housings. You will need to make connections on both sides of the vehicle.

Once you have made the plug-in connections you will need to attach the white ground wire ring terminal to a clean bare metal surface behind the driver-side tail light; you can use an existing ground point if there is one or you can carefully drill a hole to install the ground wire. Be sure to avoid any components that may be located behind the point where you drill. A solid ground connection is critical to proper operation of the harness.
