The Curt Discovery Trailer Brake Controller, # C84VV, and the Custom Wiring Adapter, # C51446, will work on your 2013 Dodge Durango without splicing as long as your Durango came with a factory 7-way trailer connector at the trailer hitch. The 7-way trailer connector would indicate that your truck has the factory tow package, which would include a brake controller plug under the drivers side dash. You should see a gray connector just to the left of the steering column.

If your Durango does not have factory trailer wiring, then you can still use the Curt Discovery brake controller, but you will need the Universal Wiring Adapter, # C51515, to hardwire the brake controller into the trailer wiring that is installed on your Durango. The universal adapter has 4 blunt cut wires. The white wire should be grounded to a clean, bare metal surface or to the negative battery terminal. The black wire should be ran directly to positive battery terminal through a 30 amp circuit breaker like part # 38630. The blue wire is the output wire from the brake controller for electric trailer brakes and the red wire should be connected to the wire on the cold side of the stop light switch on your vehicle. The stoplight switch will be located on the arm of the brake pedal.

Traditionally Dodge used a white wire with a tan stripe for the stoplight switch wire, but I recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wires coming out of the stoplight switch before making any connections. The wire should only show power when the brake pedal is pressed.

I have attached the installation instructions for the brake controller as well as a few FAQ articles on how to install a brake controller that explain the installation. If your Durango did not come with a trailer connector, then you will first want to install a 4-way trailer connector like part # C56346. After that, I recommend installing our Universal 7-way and 4-way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit includes the everything you will need to install a 7-way trailer connector and a brake controller. I have attached the installation instructions for the ETBC7 kit for you to check out as well.

If your Durango has a 7-way trailer connector, but it does not have the factory brake controller connector under the dash, then you can use the Brake Controller Wiring Kit, # 5506. This kit comes with all of the wiring and hardware needed to connect the brake controller with the trailer wiring on your vehicle.
