Are all Travel Trailer RV Bumpers Rated for Carrying Bike Racks
Question:
I have a 26foot travel trailer and the rear bumper is attached to the trailer frame. I read every where that bike racks cannot go on a bumper mount and have never heard an explanation of why? the bumper holds my weight, 230 lbs, why not 2 bikes at 140 lbs? E-trailer sells a storage bumper tray, why that and not a bike rack?

Expert Reply:
Some RV bumpers can carry the weight of a bike rack but the reason some might not be able to while still being able to handle the weight of a person standing on it is due to the the way the weight gets exaggerated when the trailer hits bumps. This cause quite a bit more stress on the bumper.
So the Swagman E-Spec part # S94FR that you referenced could be used with a bumper hitch like the # E-100 as long as the bumper of the RV is rated for it. You'd have to check with the trailer manufacturer.
