Horse Trailer Turn Signals and Running Lights Not Functioning
Question:
I own a 2000 Ford F350. I pull a 1993 Bee Horse Trailer. Lately when I hitch them the tail lights come on but the turn signals dont work. The running lights dont work either. Trailer sales staff say the relays in the truck are bad. I feel that corrosion has taken hold or the 6 pin to 7 blade adapter are bad. Can you shed some light on the subject? NO pun intendedThank you for your time.

You can immediately test the relay theory by simply pulling the suspect relay and replacing it with one of the others on the fuse block. If this solves the problem, replace the relay and you are good to go.
You will want to consult the owner's manual regarding the location of the fuses that protect the towing circuits on your vehicle. Make sure these fuses are not blown.
Next, use a circuit tester, such as part # PTW2993 and test the trailer connector on the vehicle. Have a helper activate the turn signals, running lights, and brake lights as you test the pins. Plug in the adapter, and test this as well.
Check the connector on the vehicle and on the trailer as well as the adapter for any damage or corrosion. If you can see any green corrosion on the pins or sockets, there is a good chance that the corrosion could have spread to the interior of the connector, interfering with your connection.
If the connectors check out, examine the trailer wiring. Starting at the connector, start tracing each circuit back to each lamp. Make sure that the ground connection is tight, and that its connection to the trailer frame is not corroded. Make sure none of the wires are pinched or broken, and that the insulation is not worn or cracked.
