Should Trailer Axle Be Above or Below Leaf Springs

Question:

I purchased a used trailer. The springs are over the axle now, but how do I determine if the axles may have been flipped? What is the correct orientation of the axles? My trailer seems to be lower than I thought it should be. I currently have the CRE3000 kit on suspension. Is there anything else I can look into to lift the trailer a few inches.

If there was evidence of a spring seat being welded at one point to the bottom of the trailer axle on your trailer that would indicate that an over under kit was installed and the axle was "flipped". Looking at your picture though it does not seem like that is the case. There isn't a correct orientation either as either way is totally fine and up to the owner to determine which would work best for them.

To the height (if that's what you want) you can install the Dexter Over Under kit part # K71-385-00 which would allow you to move the axle to being above the leaf springs. This kit fits 3 inch axles like what it looks like you have but if instead you have 2-3/8 inch diameter you'd want the part # K71-384-00. These kits are for a single axle so since you have a tandem axle you'd need a quantity of two.
