Brake Controller Recommendation for 1995 Ford Super Duty
Question:
Hello, 1995 Ford F SuperDuty Stakebody Truck. 7.3 L with 5 Speed Trans. I want to Be able to tow a trailer with brakes, 1 or 2 Axle Trailer. Truck right now has a 7 pin trailer connector but only 4 wires going to it Black, white, yellow and green. No connections under dash that I see for a trailer brake controller hook up. I am on a budget so looking for the most efficient way to make this work. Thank you, Tim

The Tekonsha Brake Evn part # TK63VR is a really great brake controller that also happens to be lower in price so it would be what I would recommend for your 1995 Ford Super Duty. It can sense how hard you are applying the truck brakes and will apply a proportional amount of braking pressure on the trailer brakes. To wire this to your truck you'd need the # 5506.
The # 5506 will install with the black wire running to the positive terminal of your battery with the included 20amp circuit breaker if your trailer has 1-2 braking axles, or the 30 amp circuit breaker if your trailer has 3-4 braking axles. The white wire will run to the negative terminal on your battery. From the brake controller you would wire it like this.
Black wire to black wire of # 5506
White wire to white wire of # 5506
Blue wire to factory blue brake output wire
Red wire to cold side of stop light switch.
