What Amperage Hughes Autoformer Surge Protector Is Correct For My RV
Question:
I am looking at getting a Hughes Autoformer 30AMP. Current trailer and Park are 30AMPSomeone has told me to get the 50AMP option and convert both ends to 30A with dogbone connectors. I am also looking to put the Watchdog surge protector inline. Do you recommend this or better to do all 30Amp ? Thank-you

Expert Reply:
No, you will always want to get the Hughes Autoformer Surge Protector that matches the amperage of your RV. The shore power amperage isn't what you'll need to go off when selecting your surge protector.
You'll hook your RV up to the # HU24FR and then connect it to the shore power. If you are at a campsite with a different amperage than you trailer then you would use an adapter in between the surge protector and the shore power pedestal.
If you had a 50 amp service trailer you would instead want to use the # HU57FR.
