Is it Safe to Use Ball Mount With 6-1/2 Inch Rise on 2003 Honda Odyssey
Question:
Hey, looking at specs, my 03 Honda Odyssey minivan, with a typical U-Haul 5x8 cargo trailer will need a 18.5inch ball height. The top of the receiver on Reese Trailer hitch is about 12. Guessing that I need a ball mount with a 6.5inch rise. Ive never towed with this vehicle before, but thats what I would need. Question, is using a 6.5inch rise considered safe? Most of the ball mounts with that much rise are rated for very high loads, and this minivan is only rated to tow 3500 lbs maybe 1,500 as Payload in the trailer. Im just trying to move some furniture with a small u-haul trailer.

It is perfectly safe to use a ball mount like the # C45100 you were looking at with your 2003 Honda Odyssey. This ball mount has a gross towing weight of 3,500 lbs in the 6-1/4" rise position so it works for any trailer as long as it does not exceed 3,500 lbs. Like your vehicle, it is fine to tow something below the maximum capacity. It is only unsafe if you exceed that capacity.
