Is etrailer Hitch for 2021 Subaru Ascent Safe to Tow With
Question:
Hiya! We purchased your hitch, e55ZR a year ago for our 2021 Subaru Ascent Limited and had it professionally mounted. At the time of purchase we planned to just use the hitch to mount a bike rack and a small cargo carrier and its been an excellent choice for those uses. Now we are looking at towing an RV camper and after doing some research on the Ascent Forums we are seeing some concerns that because the e55ZR does not tie directly into the frame rails like the OEM hitch option or like your EcoHitch option Part# 306-X7381 it might not be appropriate for that use. Can you speak to the veracity of this concern? Do we need to replace our e55ZR hitch with the OEM option or the EcoHitch if we want to tow an RV trailer? Thanks!

We've sold quite a few of the etrailer hitch part # e55ZR that fits your 2021 Subaru Ascent and none of our customers have had an issue with the hitch when towing. It was extensively tested and the way it installs is a safe and secure place on the vehicle. There are several other hitches that install the same way for different vehicles and it works fine. I would not worry at all as long as you plan to stay under the weight capacity of the vehicle.
For trailer wiring then the Tekonsha kit part # 118790 is a great option that installs easily and is very reliable.
