Do I Need to Remove the Factory Hitch on My 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 to Install an After Market Hitch?

Question:

I have a 2004 Dodge ram 2500 with a factory hitch. However, Im trying to remove the factory hitch due to being unsafe to use and would like to replace it with another hitch. Which one would you suggest or should I leave the factory one on and put a new hitch attached to the frame, below the factory?

I would be happy to help you. Removing the factory hitch is not necessary and will be difficult to remove based on how it was attached to your Ram 2500's bumper. Ultimately, it'll be up to you but it being on there will have zero effect on the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C15409 you were looking at. The Curt is going to be the best option for adding a hitch. This is a Class V hitch with a 2" receiver that is custom fit and bolts to your Ram's frame with included hardware. It does require the factory bumper to complete the installation.

If you need a 2-1/2" hitch receiver you will want the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver item # C15809.
