Shank With More Drop for Fastway Weight Distribution System
Question:
Hi, I have a 2015 Ram 2500 that I will be using to pull a 2022 Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH, dry weight is 4088lbs, GVWR 5500lbs. The hitch weight will probably be between 450 and 500lbs. I would like to get some recommendations on a Fastway e2 weight distribution hitch and what size shank you would recommend. The truck sits fairly high in the back and I wanted to know if that year of truck usually needs a taller shank so there is more of a drop? Thanks!

For a travel trailer that has the approximate loaded tongue weight you mentioned, I'd recommend the Fastway 800 lb system, part # FA92-00-0800 which is compatible with travel trailers that have a 400-800 lb loaded tongue weight (AKA hitch weight). You'll want to ensure that the tongue weight figure you're going off of includes the weight of anything stowed in the bed of the truck behind the rear axle.
As far as a shank goes, the shank needed will depend on the height difference between the hitch on the vehicle and the bottom of the trailer coupler when the travel trailer is jacked up so its level.
Since I don't know the rear height of your truck or the height of the trailer coupler, you'll need to take a quick measurement to find the drop you need. I'll link you to an article that explains how to do this. The article is actually geared to finding the correct ball mount based on the needed rise or drop, but it's the same procedure to determine which shank is needed.
The shank included offers a maximum drop of up to 1/2 inch, which probably isn't enough to properly level your trailer, so you'll need to get a shank that offers a larger drop.
Based on the measurement you take, here are a list of possible replacement shanks:
• For a drop of up to 3 inches, use # EQ90-02-4100
• For up to 4 inches of drop, use # EQ90-02-4200
• For up to 6 inches of drop, use # EQ90-02-4300
