How close can the feet be put together? I want to mount on my tent mount bars on my Datin Fab canvas cage rack. The rails are 39 inch on center or can be less, 1 inch square tube with cutouts for bolts.

According to the instructions for the Thule TracRac CapRac Ladder Rack for Camper Shell/Truck Cap # TH29200XT you'll want the feet to be about 27-1/2" apart from each other both front to back and side to side. Thule says "about" that measurement so if it's a little more or less you'll be okay.
