Does the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power # PD9145ALV Have a Recovery Mode for Lithium Batteries?

Question:

Does the PD9145ALV support a recovery mode that will awaken sleeping Lithium batteries that have been fully discharged? I understand that this converter is a two-stage model. Is the first stage different than that on the one-stage PD4045 converter that also supports lithium? I am wondering if it is sufficient to put a PD4045 on a switch and disconnect it when charging is complete, or if it would be better to purchase the PD9145ALV.

Great question. I went ahead and brought your questions to my tech at Progressive Dynamics. The Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Charger - Lithium # PD9145ALV has 2 recovery stages: 13.6 VDC and 14.6 VDC. The converter automatically switches between these modes based off the state of charge of the battery.

As far as the Progressive Dynamics Mighty Mini AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger - 45 Amp # PD4045KA, the lithium setting is a constant state of 14.6 VDC. For this Converter/Smart Charger, Progressive Dynamics recommends a battery disconnect switch in order to stop charging once the battery is at 100% charge.

As far as a recommendation, I suggest going with the # PD9145ALV because the mode change is automatic and does not require a disconnect when the battery reached full charge. This is because it reduces the voltage down to 13.6VDC. However, the down side is that installing the # PD9145ALV to your DC fuse board will take some extra wiring and you will need to mount it by using a 3-prong 120 VAC outlet.
