Why Does Curt Require the Stabilization Strap While Carrying a Bike Rack on a 2013 Honda Accord
Question:
I just watched the video about the Curt hitch stabilizing strap which is needed for mounting a bike rack on the Curt hitch for my 2013 Honda Accord. The bike rack in the video is different from mine which is a Swagman XTC2 and does not have the arms like the rack in the video. How does the strap work on my kind of bike rack? And why does the Curt hitch require one for a bike rack but not the Draw-Tite 24899? How are they different? Thanks for answering these three questions for me.

Curt requires a stabilization strap for all Class I hitch mounted accessories to relieve stress that is put upon the hitch while carrying hitch mounted accessories.
To utilize the Curt Support Strap # 18050 on your Swagman XTC-2 simply loop the strap through your bike(s), then around the upright mast of your bike rack and attach it to the trunk of your 2013 Honda Accord. If you have the Crosstour model then attach the hook to the lower edge of the rear lift gate.
Although Draw-Tite does not require the use of the stabilization strap when carrying hitch mounted accessories, it is a really good idea to use one with any Class I hitch.
