If you have the industry standard rails like what are pictured in the pic that I attached you would just need the Reese Universal Installation Kit # RP30439 and you would be good. You will want to compare the dimensions of the rails in the picture to what you have to know. This bracket kit is a universal kit that has been confirmed to fit your 1996 Dodge Ram Truck.

I attached installation instructions for this kit, and if you need the bolts that attach the rails to the brackets you would want the Replacement Hardware Kit # RP58504.

Yes it looks like the same Curt fifth wheel rail kit part #C16306-204 does fit both a 2018 Ram 1500 6-1/2 foot bed and a 2012 Ram 1500 5-1/2 foot bed.
