Will the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Clear My Spare Tire on My 2014 Jeep Wrangler?

Question:

Bob C. Your reply to Ians on the above product that the shaft length was 71/2 inches away from the back of the truck. I read somewhere earlier on your site that this distance was 12 inches. Can you verify what the length is before I place an order. I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler and want to be sure it clears the spare tire mounted on the back of the Jeep. Thanks,

When looking at the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches # HLY64FR, the distance between the center of the shank's pinhole to the closest part of the rack (while folded up) is 7-1/2 inches. When the rack is in the "down" position, it is 12 inches. If you measured the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside face of your spare tire and it is between 7-1/2 inches and 12 inches long, you can still use the rack, but you will not be able to fold the rack in the "up" position. I recommend making the measurement from the center of your hitch's pin hole to confirm the clearance length you need.

If you need a hitch that will allow you to use the rack in both positions, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit # DT78MR. This is because this particular hitch model installs closer to the rear of the vehicle than our other options. I went ahead and attached a video that shows the hitch installed on a 2014 Jeep Wrangler and provides the dimensions to confirm the clearance.

If you already have a hitch installed and find that you do not have enough clearance, I recommend the 7-Inch Hitch Extender # HE06. It is important to note, though, that any time you use a hitch adapter or extender, you reduce the overall weight capacity of the hitch by 50%.
