Can I Carry More Weight On My 2012 Winnebago Vista Motorhome If I Get A Different Hitch Receiver

Question:

I have a 2012 Winnebago Vista. the hitch has a 500lb Tongue weight and 5000lb tow capacity. I want to attach a motorcycle carrier which weighs 95lbs. The motorcycle weighs 500lbs wet. A total weight of 595lbs. Can I increase the tongue weight of my hitch? Do i have to buy a whole new hitch with a higher tongue weight and if so what do you recommend.

That depends, your 2012 Winnebago's maximum gross trailer weight and maximum tongue weight are independent of those corresponding values of your hitch receiver. You are limited to the lower of the two values between your motorhome and the hitch receiver, so going with a hitch receiver with a higher maximum tongue weight does not guarantee you can carry anymore weight. You will have to contact the manufacturer to find out the frame capacity of your Winnebago.
