What All Do I Need To Set Up My 2022 Chevy Colorado ZR2 For Flat Towing?

Question:

So we purchased a 2022 Chevy Colorado with the ZR2 package and want to get it set up for flat towing behind our RV, also new. We recently retired and will be traveling the country for quite some time and we specifically got the ZR2 package on the Colorado so we can take the truck anywhere after we park at a campsite. Now, I have done plenty of towing in my day, but that was always done with trailers and neither of us, the wife and I, have towed a vehicle like this before. So I don't know what all I need. Can I get a list of all components needed? Good instructions are a must as I will probably be doing this myself (I'm very handy with tools). Thanks in advance.

Setting up your 2022 Chevy Colorado ZR2 for flat towing will require a few things, but I have a full list of everything you need below. The base plate I have listed will also work with or without the Adaptive Cruise Control option on your ZR2, so no issues there. I also included either install and review videos for you to check out.

Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM33VR
Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # RM-522
RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000 lbs # RM-643
Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System # RM-766
Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System # RM-8700
Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751472

Most states require a supplemental braking system when flat towing, so I included the option that I really like. The Stop Light Switch is required to get this system up and running properly. I am sure you noticed all these parts being the Roadmaster brand. They tend to make the best and longest lived parts for flat towing, so I like to stick with their products. Almost all their stuff is American made as well, so they come highly recommended.

Just as a side note, do not back up your RV when the truck is attached. This can not only damage the tow bars, but it can actually damage the vehicle as well. This is something I always try and point out when someone mentions being new to flat towing. I have seen quite a few bent tow bars in my day as not everyone is aware of this.
