What Rooftop Cargo Bag and Ski Carrier do You Recommend that Can Be Transported Together?

Question:

Any suggestions on another soft top to go along with a ski rack? And recommendations for a ski rack? For 2 pairs? I have Thule crossbars.

From the design of our rooftop ski holders and the crossbar space required for a rooftop cargo bag, the only feasible option is to use the SeaSucker Ski and Snowboard Carrier - Vacuum Cup Mounted - 4 Pairs of Skis or 2 Board # 298-SK2425 along with a bag like the SportRack Vista Rooftop Cargo Bag - Water Resistant - 13 cu ft # SR8106. However, since the SportRack (and other cargo bags) will take up a majority of width of the crossbars, the only way to transport your skis is by positioning the SeaSucker horizontal or at an angle so that it does not interfere with the bag. If you go this route, it is important to make sure that the skis do not extend past the mirrors on your vehicle. This can be very dangerous and, in some cases, can go against some local traffic laws.

If you have particularly long skis, an all-in-one solution would be a cargo box like the Yakima SkyBox 18 Rooftop Cargo Box - 18 cu ft - Black Carbonite # Y07336. With the SkyBox 18, you will be able to transport skis up to 215cm long. Also, the SkyBox is compatible with most models of Thule crossbars (as long as they do not exceed 3-1/2" wide x 1-11/16" tall). You also receive the benefit of storing additional cargo in the box (which is the main use of a cargo bag). In order to make sure you can open your rear hatch with the SkyBox 18 installed, you need to have at least 57 inches of length from the center of your front crossbar to the line where the roof and hatch meet. I went ahead and attached a photo that shows this measurement so you can determine if you have enough space.
