What Is Needed To Tow A 5th Wheel Trailer With A 2022 Ford F-150 With 5-1/2 Bed

Question:

I just got the new 2022 Ford F-150 and need to haul a 2020 Forest River Arctic Wolf 265DBH8 I'm planning on purchasing. What components do I need to make this work?

Since your 2022 Ford F-150 has a 5-1/2' bed you'll need to use a standard 5th wheel hitch with a rotating pin box to prevent the nose of your RV from coming into contact with the cab of your truck. Rotating pin boxes push the pivot point of your trailer back 22" allowing for more turning clearance.

To start you'll need to find out what the bolt pattern of your trailer's pin box is so that we can find the corresponding fit. Normally there will be a tag or stamp on the front or sides of the pin box with this information. Over time these tags/stamps can wear away, so if yours is missing we do have an alternative way to find out the bolt pattern.

Below you'll find our help article titled, 4 Steps To Choosing Your 5th Wheel Pin Box. This article will walk you through the steps of measuring your pin box to find the bolt pattern. Once you have that pattern number we can go through the fitguide to find a compatible match. For example, the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret - 20,000lbs # RP34FR will fit the following bolt patterns:

Fabex 663
Fabex 665
Lippert 0719
Lippert 1621
Lippert 1621HD
M and M 663
M and M 665

For the 5th wheel hitch I recommend the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30928 with the necessary installation kit # RP56034-53. You'll also need the wedge # RP44FR to keep the Sidewinder king pin from pivoting in your hitch.
