Will Tekonsha Powered Taillight Converter Draw Power When Vehicle is Off

Question:

Hi. Since the module is connected directly to the battery, will there be a power draw on the battery when not in use? or engine switched off? Also if I remove the fuse for the system to stop the power draw, will my car brake and signal lights still function normally? Im thinking about drawing the required power from an available cigarette adapter socket at the back of my car.

The Tekonsha # TK26FR T-One connector will not draw power from the tow vehicle unless the trailer lights are illuminated. Although it isn't necessary to do so, you could pull the 10A fuse from the holder where it connects to the battery when you're not towing if you wish.

We don't recommend connecting that power wire in any other manner that a direct connection to the positive battery terminal. If you draw the power from the 12-v socket, you'll be pulling power for the trailer lights through the vehicle's wiring which could possibly leave the vehicle's electrical system vulnerable to any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring.

I've linked to installation instructions for the # TK26FR harness, plus to a help article that explains how to run that power circuit to the front of the vehicle.
