Recommended Flat Towing Set Up For A 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited With An Off-Road Bumper

Question:

I am wanting to get my 2021 Wrangler Unlimited set up to flat tow behind an RV we just got. I am completely new to this and could use some advice as to what all I need to do it properly. I was talking to a guy at my last campsite we stayed at and he had been using the Blue Ox Patriot braking system and I like that it is easy to set up and move between vehicles if needed, so I know I want to go with that. What else do I need to get my Jeep ready to go? I do have an off road bumper with 1 inch thick D-Rings on it and assume it will be fairly easy to attach to those if there is an option to do so. Thanks in advance.

We definitely have what you need to get your 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited all set up to be flat towed. Knowing you have an off-road bumper with the 1" D-Rings actually does help quite a bit and allows you to use the Roadmaster Adapter for Jeep D-Ring Bumper Mounts # RM-035-1 instead of a traditional base plate, so that's a huge plus. These will replace the attachments at the ends of the arms on the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar # RM-522 and get you connected in no time flat. The only other thing you will need to complete this part will be the # RM-643 safety cables.

Once this is complete, you will need to get some wiring. To start, I recommend going with the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This includes all the wiring, diodes, brackets, and cable needed to complete everything. To use the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, which is the portable kit I recommend due to its reliability and ease of use, you will need one more part though. This will be the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332 that will need to be wired directly to the battery. This will bypass the computers in the vehicle that will shut down power after a certain amount of time has passed and the vehicle isn't started. Once this is in, you are completely good to go.

A couple things to do when flat towing a vehicle for the first time. One is to check your owner's manual. It will show you exactly how to put it in the towing mode and is typically just a couple steps. One other very major thing that people don't realize is that you absolutely cannot under any circumstances reverse with the Jeep attached to the RV. This will not only damage the tow bar, but can also damage the vehicle as well. Just something to be aware of. Other than that, have fun on the road!
