Replacement Trailer Tires for a Boat Trailer with 4.80/4.00-8 Tires

Question:

I currently have duro 4.80/4.00-8 tires on my boat trailer which are speed rated for 45 mph. I would like a bigger tire that is rated at a higher speed. What do you suggest?

First, bigger tires require that you have enough clearance around the existing tires on the trailer for the larger size. You will need to determine how much space there is available before going to a larger tire. Also going to larger tires will not increase the capacity of the trailer.

The tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour (unless otherwise stated on the tires). Trailer tire # AM10004 that you have referenced would be your best option if you stay with the same tire size.

You could potentially go up to a 5.70-8 tire size but it will be almost 1 inch wider and it will be 2 inches taller. You need more than 1 inch all around the current tires for the larger size. A 5.70-8 tire will fit on the same rim as 4.80/4.00-8 tire. If you have the space on the trailer then you can use tire # AM10013.

Be sure to inflate trailer tires to the maximum psi as indicated on the tire. I have included a link to our trailer tire FAQ article for you.
