If your transmission temperature is exceeding 200 degrees Fahrenheit, I would recommend adding a supplemental transmission cooler. One of the leading causes for transmission failure is overheating and decreasing your transmission temperature will prolong the life of your transmission.
For your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, I recommend installing the largest transmission cooler that will fit in front of your AC condenser or radiator. If you have the space available, I recommend installing the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Cooler, # D13613. This transmission cooler measures 11 inches wide x 8-7/8 inches tall x 1-1/4 inches deep. The mounting dimensions are 6-3/4 inches wide x 8 inches tall (see photo).
To make the installation easier, I recommend using the GM Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting, # D13035. I have attached a transmission cooler installation video on a Chevrolet Suburban for you to check out. The vehicle is different from your truck, but the video should give you a good idea on what is involved with the installation.
I have also attached two FAQ articles on transmission coolers for you to check out.
