The spacer plate that is included with the Curt Friction Sway Control # 17200 is for alignment purposes. It is not required for all installations but has been included by Curt in the event that it is required. The plate will also provide additional support to the frame giving it a larger surface area to prevent the ball mount from damaging thinner frames or aluminum frames.
