Extended Length 1621 Pin Box and Increasing Turning Clearance From Replacing Pin Box

Question:

Looking to extend my 5th wheel king pin by ~ 4-5 . too tight between tailgate and Camper. I see extended king pin hitches, but nothing mentions the extended length. Pls let me know if you offer options for doing this. Pin box has 119119, so assuming a 1621 pin box from lippert Thanks !

Yes, the Lippert part number you identified, 119119 does mean you have a 1621 pin box. The use of the term extended pin box however is not indicating that it is a longer version of an otherwise same pin box, it is simply greater in length relative to the various other model numbers available. For example, a Lippert 1621, Lippert 1621HD and Lippert 1716, three very common Lippert Pin Boxes, are all considered to be "extended length". This is relative to the length of other common Lippert Pin Boxes such as the Lippert 1116 and Lippert 0719 which are considered "standard length". To gain turning clearance between your truck and 5th wheel trailer, your best option is to replace your pin box with a rotating turret style pin box such as the Sidewinder. With the Sidewinder the pivot point is moved back 22 inches instead of where the king pin is coupled to the hitch. This is the best solution for a short bed truck, there are two models available for your 1621 pin box that are direct replacements. The # RP34FR that is rated for 20,000 LBS, and the # RP61422 that is rated for 16,000 LBS.

Please note the linked article on Sidewinders and the product review and installation videos below. Let me know of any follow-up questions you may have...Happy Camping!
