Will the Draw-Tite T-One Wiring Harness # 118258 Fit on a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited

Question:

I have the wiring harness for my 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Ltd that attaches to the tail lights. My trailer lights work on an intermittent bases only . Would I be better off using the 30159 harness as the Santa Fe does have the factory wiring connection under the chassis. Thanks

You may be able to use a wiring harness like the Draw-Tite T-One Wiring Harness, # 118258, on your 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe, however, you will first want to determine if your vehicle was equipped with a tow package. If your Santa Fe was not equipped with a tow package, then the connectors under your vehicle may not be hot.

There are a few ways you can go about checking this, first, you could use a circuit tester like the Quickee Tester, # 3808, to test the connectors on your vehicle. If they show power with each tail light function, then you will have not problem installing this harness. If they are not hot, then you may need to install additional tow package relays and fuses.

You can also contact a local Hyundai dealer. They can use your VIN to see if your vehicle came with the tow package.

That is odd that your current wiring harness only works intermittently. Before purchasing and installing a completely new wiring harness, I would recommend doing some troubleshooting on your old harness. Based on your description, it sounds like you could have a bad ground connection. If your current wiring harness has a separate ground wire, I would move it to a better location or to an existing ground stud if one is available. The ground wire should be attached to a clean, bare metal surface.

I would also recommend checking the ground connections on your trailer. A poor ground connection on your trailer can cause the light on the trailer to work intermittently as well. I would also inspect the connectors for any dirt or corrosion. Corrosion can makes it way into the connector as well, if you see any corrosion on the trailer connector pins, repair or replace as necessary.
