How To Measure for Determination If Sliding Hitch is Needed for 2022 Chevy Silverado

Question:

Do I need a fixed hitch or a slide model? I understand the newer models have the puck system moved 2 inches farther back. How do I measure to discover this so I don't make contact with the cab of truck when turning?

Below is the formula for measuring if you will/will not need a sliding hitch. First measure from the center of the hitch jaw location forward to the back of the truck cab and then you'll want to measure the width of the trailer nose.

Using the formula: (A+B)-C= Clearance
A= distance from center of hitch jaws to cab
B= sliding hitch movement (in this case it's 0")
C= width of trailer nose divided by 2 (so 1/2 the width)

As long as this number is +4 or greater, you'll have the clearance you're needing and can use a fixed hitch like the 20K B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package, # BWRVK3710. If you get anything smaller than 4 then you'll need 20K B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package, # BWRVK3775.
