Can A Fixed 5th Wheel Hitch Be Used On A 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 With A Short Bed?

Question:

I just upgraded my truck to a 2022 Silverado 2500 that has the puck system in the bed, so I am looking for a B&W hitch. I've used B&W for years and they have always served me well and want to stick with them. The thing is, I have a 6-3/4 foot bed and am absolutely sick of having to get out and unlock the slider to make sharp turn in parking lots or camp sites. Can I use the BWRVK3710 fixed hitch in my truck? I know I will have to be careful in those tight spaces, but I really prefer to go with this instead of a slider. Let me know what you think.

Though I typically do recommend a sliding hitch, like the B&W Companion # BWRVK3775, for a short bed truck like your new 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500, I do get that having to get in and out of the truck to make tight turns can be a pain in the butt. With that said, I do have a way around this while being able to stick with the fixed B&W Companion # BWRVK3710. It will require a few other parts though.

What you will need to do is upgrade the king pin on your camper to a pivoting style one. The Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret # RP34FR will accomplish this and will match the 20,000 pound capacity of the hitch. However, you will need to verify your pin box number to make sure this will fit. This fits the Lippert 0719, 1621 and 1621HD, the Fabex 663 and 665, and the M&M 663 and 665 pin boxes, which should cover you, but I definitely suggest verifying this with the camper's manufacturer. All you need to do is contact them with your VIN and they can tell you exactly what you have. The only other thing you will need is the Sidewinder Wedge Kit # RP74FR to keep the pin from rotating in the hitch.

This will be a fairly expensive way to go, but it will allow you to go with a fixed hitch in your short bed Silverado 2500.
