Should You Remove Old Sealant Or Can You Add More On Top Of It

Question:

Just took a look at the roof on a 12 year old cargo trailer I recently purchased. While I dont see any evidence of leaking, the sealant on the roof seems looks rough and shows quite a bit of cracking. Is it ok to just add more sealant on top of the old stuff? Or do I need to get the old stuff off 1st?

It's always best to remove the old sealant first and then clean the area with soap and water to ensure a secure grip for the LaSalle Bristol XTRM Universal Self-Leveling Sealant # 34427034145-1. The old sealant could deteriorate and fall off taking the new sealant with it.
