Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country Towing a Pop Up Camper

Question:

What are the differences between the rubber suspension add-on part TDVRRT and the air spring suspension add-on air lift brand, 60814 model. I realize that one is air driven and one is rubber, but what about longevity, performance, ease of installation, durability, etc. I have a 2012 Chrsyler Town and Country and I need to add some suspension support for when I tow a pop up trailer. I will be installing the parts myself in the garage with jacks and jack stands. your videos are great and very helpful, but I cant find the research on which option rubber or air is going to be the better purchase

Basically, rubber springs are ideal for vehicles that carry the same load frequently, like towing a pop up camper. Air springs are better for trucks that carry different sized loads and thus have to level the bed side to side.

As far as longevity, rubber springs are essentially one part which means less to go wrong. They are made to last the life of the vehicle. With air springs you have the air bags themselves, the lines, fittings, more components that means a greater chance that something can go wrong. But they do work quite well and generally repairs are not difficult.

As for performance, whether its the same or similar load on rubber springs or varying loads with air bags, either type of system handles the job well and you will be happy with the performance no matter which way you go. I have included some FAQ articles that might help as well.

Ease of installation is another benefit of the rubber springs simply because you do not have to do as much assembly or route air lines, fill the bags with air/remove air every time you need to. The Rubber springs get installed and then thats it. You do not have to mess with them again.

If it were me I would go with Timbren springs # TDVRRT for your 2012 Chrysler Town and Country.
