How to Install the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller on a Vehicle Without a Brake Control Plug
Question:
This part has a plug at the end of the wires. The truck does not have a plug. How can I connect them? Do i remove the plug or do the wires stick into the plug?

To connect the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller, # 39510, to your truck, you will want the Tekonsha Brake Controller Pigtail, # 7894. This pigtail has a connector that matches the connector on the Voyager so the brake controller can be easily unplugged and removed from the truck in the future.
Since your vehicle does not have a plug-in port for a brake controller, you can simply hard wire the pigtail harness. There will be 4 wires, white for ground, black for 12 volt power, blue for electric brake output, and red for the stop light switch.
The white wire should be grounded to the negative post of the vehicle battery. The black wire should be routed to the positive post of the vehicle battery via a 20-amp or 30-amp circuit breaker. Use a 20-amp breaker if you will be towing a trailer with 2 or 4 brakes or a 30-amp breaker for a trailer with 6 or 8 brakes.
The blue wire will be routed to the 7-way trailer connector at the back of your vehicle and the red wire should be spliced to the cold side of your brake switch. This is typically located just above the brake pedal. Use a circuit tester to find the wire coming from the brake switch that only has signal when the brake pedal is pressed.
If you need a 7-way trailer connector installed on your vehicle as well, then I recommend installing the 4-Pole and 7-Pole Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit includes everything you will need to install a 7-way trailer connector and brake controller in your tow vehicle. I have attached installation details for this kit for you to check out. You must already have a 4-way flat trailer connector installed on your tow vehicle to use this kit. If you do not already have a 4-way flat trailer connector, let me know the year, make and model of your vehicle and I can recommend a 4-way wiring harness for you.
I have also attached two FAQ articles on installing a brake controller that should help with the installation process.
