I have attached the complete written manual below for the Tekonsha Primus IQ Trailer Brake Controller # TK90160 that you can use for reference. As long as everything is wired correctly the brake controller should detect your Cougar Camper as soon as you connect the 7-Way on your F-150 to the 7-Way on the trailer.

Please just let me know if you have any other specific questions or issues regarding the Primus IQ and I will be happy to help!

I have an older model Primus that I just installed in my 2014 GMC Sierra but I cannot find the manual for it. How do I properly calibrate it? This is the model with the blue lever on the right side and the dial on the left front corner. Thanks in advance

The full manual for the Primus is linked further down this page. The calibration process will be pretty much the same for your older model.

I was towing a 4000 lb travel trailer. Service at rv set my brake control at 9. Never saw reading of 9 but seemed to work. I now tow 6500 trailer and left setting at 9. Highest reading I got when braking was 5.8. So I reset it to 11. Highest reading when breaking around 6. I even drove at 25mph on flat road and stop acceleration and pushed slide to stop, no truck brakes. It smoothly slowed down and stopped the truck and trailer at 9 reading. Slide wasn't fully pushed. Should I leave setting at 11?

If you're getting adequate trailer braking at that 11 setting (which it sounds like you are) I don't see a need to change anything.

@ChrisR Chris it seems like the unit adjusts to the particular activation. If I "slam" on the brakes the reading is higher than if I pump the brakes. Should set the unit higher until activation locks up the brakes then back off? Really appreciate your response.

@PeterH The Primus IQ is a proportional controller, so it sends back power based on deceleration. This means slamming on the brakes will definitely provide increased power compared to anything less than that. It sounds like it's working normally. Your method of getting to a point of locking up the brakes, and then backing off a bit, is spot on.

I am not able to get a readable print out from the pdf Instructions for TK90160. The print is too small to read and it won't print out properly to be of use. It won't print the trouble shooting chart.

Did you try enlarging the document when going to print it? If that's not working to give you a readable print out, I just recommend reading through it on your computer when needed or storing it on your phone. Are you having a specific troubleshooting issue that I can try to help with?

I have a Tekonsha Primus IQ trailer brake controller fitted to my Toyota Prado 90 series Wagon. My controller has worked perfectly since I had it installed by an auto electrician several years ago.My vehicle has been sitting for a few weeks due to the corona virus isolation requirement. When I started my vehicle today I noticed that the C signal on my tekonsha unit was flashing continuously. Even with the ignition turned off it still continues to flash. If I press the boost buttom I get a quick flash of a flashing b then the c continues to flash. Id like to know what this is telling me and if my units operation will be compromised.Thank you in anticipation..

The "c" on the display of the Primus IQ indicates a connected trailer. Are you getting this flashing code without the trailer actually connected? If so, I wonder if the brake output pin on your Prado's 7-Way has some debris or corrosion built up inside. This is the pin at the 5 o'clock position - inspect it and clean out as needed. Corrosion or debris could be causing a short that's fooling the controller into intermittently thinking a trailer is connected. Let me know what you find and we'll go from there.
