Is There A Hitch Riser for a Bike Rack on the Back of a Motorhome

Question:

I purchased the bike rack HLY84FR. The clearance for the bottom of the rack is a little low on our motorhome, I wanted to see if it was safe to add a hitch extension riser to raise the bike rack? I would be loading 2 bikes each around 32-25 pounds. I expect to also use electric bikes in the future and those would be closer to the 80 pound per bike limit. thank you

Expert Reply:

It is not ideal to use any sort of hitch extension with a bike rack, especially on the back of a motorhome. There is simply too much stress on the bike rack due to the rough ride. That said, if the bike rack makes contact with the road there is really only one option. There are no rules against using a hitch adapter with a bike rack on a motorhome. It will however reduce the weight capacity of the hitch most likely. The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Receiver Adapter part # RM-077-2 most closely matches what you're looking for.
