Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring Harness for a 2013 BMW X5
Question:
Howdy! I am looking to put this on my 2013 E70 BMW X5d. What additional wiring is needed to be able to pull a trailer or boat? Mobile might be throwing me off but I didn’t see either way if brake or signal lights work offhand without anything else. Lastly, Do you know if fascia trimming is required on the 2013 e70? No big deal either way but have seen some others not having to it seems. Really appreciate the help! :

In order to tow a trailer with a 2013 BMW X5 you'll need a trailer hitch, trailer wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75600 is a great option for a trailer hitch. The instructions do call for trimming but we have heard from many customers it's not required on most vehicles. The hitch should just push up on the bumper a bit if you choose not to trim.
For the wiring, I recommend the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter part # C59236. This provides the most standard type of connector needed for most trailers. It does require splicing but that is unavoidable really. Then for the ball mount/hitch ball, I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches part # 989900.
