Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch W/ Sway Control For 2011 Toyota Tundra Towing 6400lb Trailer

Question:

Was looking at your weight distribution with sway control system. I have a 2011 Toyota Tundra with a 6 in lift that will be towing a enclosed cargo trailer that weighs 6400 lbs total. When I hook up the trailer to my hitch which already has a 4 in , I still have the back of my truck sagging with the front a little raised. I am getting ready to drive this trailer 1 way over 1600 miles and want to ensure I get the correct system. Some of the areas I will be traveling through will have heavy semi truck traffic so I want to make sure I have the sway control. What do you recommend? I am trying to stay under $500 if possible. Thanks

I would be happy to recommend a weight distribution system with sway control for your 2011 Toyota Tundra lifted 6" to tow a 6400lb enclosed trailer but you will need to confirm your total tongue weight before purchasing a system.

Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Tundra. The easiest way to get an accurate tongue weight measurement is with a tongue weight scale like the etrailer # e99044 but there are other methods shown in the included help article.

Since you mentioned your trailer weighs in at 6400lbs and tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the trailer weight you should expect to see 640-960lbs of tongue weight.

As long as your total tongue weight does not exceed 1000lbs then I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 10,000 lbs GTW - Without Shank # FA94-00-1033. This system is designed for total tongue weights ranging from 600-1000lbs which is more than likely the range you will be in. The Fastway e2 hitches use built in two point sway control which does a fantastic job of forcing your trailer to tow straight while on the road.

This system does not include a shank but that is perfect for you as the standard shanks that would be included will not have the drop you need since your truck is lifted so much. I recommend going with the Curt Welded Weight Distribution Shank 7" - 10 Hole Adjustment # C17123 which will offer up to 8-1/2" drop with this hitch would should allow you to get the trailer level.

In addition you will need either a 2" hitch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16" hitch ball # 19286 to match the coupler on your trailer.

If you find your total tongue weight is not within the above range just let me know.

I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
