Installing a Brake Controller and 7-Way on a 2007 Dodge Sprinter RV

Question:

I have an Itasca Navion on a 2007 Sprinter 3500 chasis It came with a 6 pin trailer wiring connector I added a converter to allow 4 pin trailer connection That works fine I now have another trailer with a 7 blade RV connector The trailer has electric brakes Not sure f the Sprinter has a brake controller connector in the cab I read there may be one green under the drivers seat. Looks to me like I need to start over and get a 90885 - Tekonsha Prodigy P2 controller for the vehicle and a ETBC7 - Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires

Since your 2007 RV on the Sprinter chassis already has a trailer connector but it does not match either trailer, using the 4 and 7 way installation kit # ETBC7 would be a good idea. This will also provide you with the accessories needed to install the P2 brake controller # 90885.

If that green wire does go back to the trailer connector then you will not have to run the blue wire from the connector to the brake controller. You can test it by applying 12 volt power to the wire using a separate battery then using a circuit tester, like # PTW2979 if needed, at the trailer connector to see if power is getting back to it.

Otherwise you will follow the FAQ and video I have linked for installing an ETBC7. One thing that will be different is attaching the wiring for the lights. Instead of plugging into the 4-Way, you will cut off the 4-Way of the ETBC7, remove the wires from the 6-Way on the vehicle, and splice them to the 4-Way wires.

On the ETBC7 4-Way wires, white is a ground, yellow is let turn and brake lights, green is right turn and brake lights, and brown is running lights. Use the circuit tester to verify the trailer connector wire functions because you cannot go by color.
