How To Determine Axle Placement On Single Axle Trailer Being Converted To Tandem Axle

Question:

As far as locating the axles in conversion. Would the center mounting bracket for the dual be located where the center of the single axle was?

Not necessarily.

You will want to follow the included link to a helpful article that goes over proper placement of tandem axles. In short you will want the front axle in a location that makes the tongue weight 10-15% of the trailer weight. It may take a few tries to get the correct location.

Once the axle location is set then you can have a qualified welder fully weld the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs - 1-1/2" Front/Rear, 2-1/2" Center # APT3 you were looking at to the trailer.

Now this kit does not include leaf springs or spring mounting hardware, so if you can tell me the axle rating of your two axles I would be happy to recommend the correct components for you.

I included a video of the # APT3 for you to take a look at.
