What 3-Bike Rack Can I Use for My 2013 Kia Soul?

Question:

Hello there: I would like to able to carry 3 bikes on my kia soul 2013. From searching what has been posted, It looks like a hitch mount wont be possible b/c of the length of the carrier sticking out and it being a short frame vehicle? If I need to go with a trunk mount, I want to make sure it will be resting on top of bumper and not on hatch door to make sure it wont get damaged. I think if most of the weight is on top of bumper it will be Ok, I want to make sure glass or hatch door wont get damaged. What is the max weight load? What carriers do you recommend and what is the price range? Thanks.

It is possible to transport 3 bikes on your 2013 Kia Soul by hitch rack. For a rack recommendation, I suggest the SportRack Pathway Deluxe 3 Bike Rack - 1-1/4", 2" Hitches - Single Arm - Locking - Tilting # SR2703. The reason why I recommend the Pathway Deluxe over the other racks is the total weight capacity on the rack of 132 pounds. This will allow you to use any combination of bike weights on the rack as long as it doesn't exceed that maximum weight capacity. Factoring in the 28 pound carrier weight of the rack, you are looking at a maximum tongue weight of 160 pounds.

For a hitch for your 2013 Kia Soul that has the tongue capacity that can hold 160 pounds, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # 24839. The maximum tongue weight of the Sportframe receiver is 200 pounds, which gives you plenty of capacity for your three bikes + the Pathway Deluxe. Since the measurement of the center of the hitch pinhole of the end of the bumper is 5 inches and the height of the receiver tube from the ground is 10 inches, this gives you plenty of space you need for a hitch-mounted bike rack. I went ahead and attached a picture of the Sportframe hitch once installed to give you a better perspective.
