Can 2006 Ford F-350 with Integrated Brake Controller be Bypassed with Aftermarket
Question:
I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha and he stated that there are two ways that you can install an aftermarket brake controller in a 2006 Ford F-350 with an integrated brake controller. The first way is to hardwire in the controller. The white wire goes to the negative battery terminal, the black wire to the positive battery terminal via a 20 or 30 amp circuit breaker, # 9506P. The red wire connects to the circuit on the brake switch that shows a signal on a circuit tester like, # PTW2993, ONLY when the brake pedal is pressed. The blue wire would have to be routed from the controller, under the vehicle, and to the 7-Way using wire # 10-1-1. You would then cut the connection from the factory controller and attach the wire you just ran. This bypasses the factory controller and will not cause fault codes. The other way, and what Tekonsha recommends, is to use a wiring harness, # 3065-P and brake controller, # 90885, plug it into the factory plug after disconnecting it from the factory controller. Then take the truck to a dealership to clear the fault code that will appear. I have included a link to a Tech Bulletin that explains what they do at the dealer to clear the fault code.
