What Bed Rails to Install RBW Model X-16 5th Wheel in 1993 Chevrolet C/K Pickup

Question:

I have a 1993 Chevy Crew Cab, K3500 Dually, 8foot bed that I want to install a RBW model x16 X-1001 Crossbar Hitch and X1001 Mount Bracket Assembly GVWR 16000lbs Vertical Load 4000lb 5th wheel. I do not have the rails to go along with the hitch as I bought it used from a co-worker. Could you please provide me with my option on which type of rails I can use to install this hitch on my vehicle.

I first contacted RBW concerning compatibility of their X16 hitch with other brands of base rails, but since they exited the hitch business about 5 years ago they were unable to help me. My contact at Reese was unable to verify the RBWs fit to their base rail kit, but advised you can check compatibility by measuring the spacing for the mounting legs on your hitch. If they are 22 or 29 inches center-to-center, they should work with most standard base rails, including the two below.

For above-bed mounting of your RBW 5th wheel in your 1993 Chevrolet C/K Series pickup we offer the Reese 10-Bolt Universal Base Rail Kit, part # RP30035. This kit includes rails, brackets and hardware. A link to an installation video is included.

For a simpler install you could instead use the Husky Custom 4-Bolt Installation Kit, part # HT31402-686, which also include rails, brackets and hardware, but only requires 4 bolts to secure the rails rather than the 10 in the Reese kit. This option will require less drilling and less overall installation time.

I have also included a link to an article concerning 5th wheels that offers useful installation tips. Please note that no 5th wheel rails should be installed over a plastic bed liner, but the spray-on variety is compatible.

We recommend use of a hitch lube plate to prevent scratching your 5th wheel skid plate; we offer both 10-inch and 12-inch sizes, parts # RP83002 and # RP83001. Either one will work on your hitch but if you prefer you can measure from the center of the king pin to the outside of your pin box and select the plate size that is closest to twice your measurement. These slide over the king pin and avoid the need to apply grease to the skid plate.
