Installing a Brake Controller on a 2002 Ford Ranger with Factory 4 Pole Harness

Question:

My son has a 2002 ford ranger and has a pop-up camper which has electric brakes on the camper. The truck has a factory 4 plug harness in it. The camper needs a 6 pin harness and electric brake controller. I have a reliance controller but wondering if this harness will work with the truck and a 30637 4 to 6 adapter will work. The truck is a 3.0L V6. The bumper says it can tow 2000 with a tongue weight of 200 but i have a class 3 hitch to put on. Thanks for your time. Peter

You will need to hardwire an adapter to your 2002 Ford Ranger. We sell a Brake Controller Installation Kit with a 6-Way and 4-Way connector, part # ETBC6 that includes the adapter and the necessary wiring and components to complete the installation all by yourself. With this kit, you will not need to purchase any adapter separately.

As a side, note, please be sure that the connector on the camper has a total of 6 pins. That is, it has 5 pins in a circle and one in the center. If it has 6 pins in a circle and 1 in the center, it is a 7-way and you would need the ETBC7 Kit.

Do you already have a brake controller? If not, we also offer brake controllers. Since you are hard wiring your Ranger, you will just need to make sure you receive or purchase a Universal Plug with your brake controller. Some controllers, such as the Tekonsha Prodigy, part # 90885, come with the universal plug. So, for instance, you would only need to purchase the ETBC6 Kit and the Prodigy, and you would have everything you need to complete the installation.
