Recommended Hydraulic 10 Inch Brake Assemblies With Aluminum Brake Cylinders for Boat Trailer

Question:

I want to replace the surge brake system on my Easy loader trailer, twin 3500# axles, with a Atwood actuator that also needs replacing. Boat and trailer weigh about 6300# with fuel. I like the looks of the Dexter DX7.5 Drop-N-Go Brake Actuator as a replacement. The Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit - Uni-Servo - Free Backing - 10inch - Left/Right Hand - 3,500 lbs Item # AKFBBRK-35 , look like they would work fine. The question I have is are the wheel cylinders aluminum? If not are there assemblies that use aluminum or composite cylinders? I have had problems with cast iron cylinders rusting.

The wheel cylinders used on the # AKFBBRK-35 brake assemblies are cast iron so they wouldn't be the best option for a boat trailer. Instead, I'd use # AKFBBRK-35-D which feature Dacromet coated backing plates, aluminum brake cylinders and stainless steel springs for increased corrosion resistance.

The Dexter # 099-175-00 Drop-N-Go brake actuating coupler would be an excellent replacement for your existing Atwood surge coupler.

I've linked to some product description videos for the products recommended above.
