Parts Needed To Add 7-Way Connector To Vehicle With 4-Way Connector

Question:

I would like to have a round 7 way trailer plug female rather than a flat 4 way trailer plug. Can I simply snip the 4 way connector off and splice in a 7 way? All three of my trailers have 7 way male plugs so a 4 way would not work for me. Thanks

I have a better option for you. Instead of cutting your 4-way connector off we offer 7-way connectors that plug into your existing 4-way connector.

If you are just needing lighting functions, and do not need the 12v power or trailer brake functions you can use the Adapter 4-Pole to 7-Pole and 4-Pole # 37185 which will plug directly into your existing 4-way connector and you will be done.

Now if you need the 12v power and trailer brake functions to work I recommend the # ETBC7 instead as it includes the required wiring for each of these features, and the circuit breakers, and wiring connectors to complete the installation.

Both of these options include a mounting bracket, but if your trailer hitch receiver does not have a mount I recommend also using the no drill mounting bracket # 18140 to keep yourself from having to drill into the receiver.

If you are needing to control your trailer brakes you will also need a trailer brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 as it is an extremely reliable controller with great features like an easy to read LCD screen, and built in diagnostics that are easy to read and understand.

I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
