Determining Wiring Functions On Trailer To Install New 4-way Connector
Question:
I have a small utility trailer with a six wire system. white, green, brown, yellow brown and green brown. Im attempting to replace the old plug using a 4 lug plug with green, brown, white and yellow wires. Have I purchased the wrong plug? I cannot get the right light to operate. Market and turn signals work on the left side. What colors should match up?

Typically there is a white, green, brown, Yellow/Green and brown, and a yellow wire so since you do not have a dedicated yellow wire you will need to test wire functions by using connecting the brown, green, yellow/brown, and green brown one at a time to the positive terminal of a battery while grounding the white wire and seeing which functions come on with each wire. Since the colors on your old connector are not standard you will need to make the connections by function and not the color of the wiring.
The 4-way connector you bought has the following functions:
White is the ground wire which gets attached to the tongue of the trailer
Yellow wire to to driver side turn signal
Green wire to passenger side turn signal
Brown wire to clearance/tail lights
I went ahead and included a link to a helpful article on wiring for you to take a look at.
